It is with great sadness that I woke this morning having accepted the fact that the uncontrolled engine fire is no longer in the number one position of worst pilots nightmare.

My final thoughts for this event.
Misinformation, most of us including myself was of the view that Gear Up had been selected because we saw an image believed to be the accident aircraft with the bogeys stowed for retraction. The report image shows that they were not and the Gear Selector was down. A crucial element in the sequence of events.

The preliminary report around the cause is deliberately vague for obvious reasons. The investigators would know exactly what was done/said and by who. The clack clack of the fuel switches would be on the CVR and align with the FDR. The First Officer was the Pilot Flying and his control inputs would be on the FDR (trim operation) when the engines were commanded to shutdown.
The full version will leak otherwise we have to wait for the Final Report. I'm of the view that the only thing misunderstood was the Captains meaning of Retirement..

No! I can think of 2 occasions when there will be only one pilot on the flight deck, in the case of incapacitation there would be no way to shut the engines down.
I would be more inclined to go with a guarded switch so that there are 3 intentional movements to shut an engine down, that's probably still an overkill.

Perhaps thrust lever must be at flight Idle.

I have to say I'm really impressed with your work. It's no co-incidence that this image has been used noting that the rat is deployed which means the generators are already offline,
I'm equally impressed by how quickly No1 engine recovered. I think it's safe to say that this situation is not recoverable, but a truly impressive piece of engineering all the same.

I believe the investigators are confident in their findings in what happened and that Homendy's request to hear the CVR concurrs with that finding. It won't be literally what was said in the report. It's probably a good thing that they are not oblidged to release it at this sensative time, I think we need to ask ourselves are you really ready to hear it and should we.
