Hi tumtiddle,
yes, I do read all the posts in any thread from the start and noted that it is basically just a dupe in this case, but many posters do not seem to do so and even just a little upthread (and also in lots on news media even currently) it has again been mentioned that only one was reported found, as if that would be a disavantage. Just wanted to add it to the thread clearly, for those of us who read all posts!

Interesting to note that this report says pilot's mayday consisted only of 2 words "mayday, mayday", with no response to the ATC request for further reply. I have seen this quoted elsewhere now in mainstream media. I will leave others to formulate their own theories in response to this report. It seems popular to do so.

This has been reported but not naming any verified or even specified source. I have also recently read in this thread at least 2 different versions, the most recent one before yours, upthread, being even more specific than the one that went around at first. Despite what is being quoted by yourself and others, with no verified source, the Indian Aviation minister reported at the most recent press conference that the mayday message was as follows :- "mayday, mayday". ATC replied asking for further info, but got no reply. Despite a lot of searching online, that is ALL that is currently verified, so far, re the mayday call.
